Quiz Trail in Foxley Woods - 10am, Saturday 21st October 2023

Image
We will be hosting a Quiz Trail in Foxley Woods on Saturday 21st October from 10am. This a great opportunity to enjoy this special area, before sharing a light lunch and the answers back at St Barnabas.  The trail is appropriate for both adults and supervised children, but sadly the terrain is not suitable for wheelchair users or for buggies, due to the narrow paths and rough ground.  However, everyone is welcome to join the lunch at St Barnabas, from 12 noon, even if you haven’t been on the trail. As usual, please advise any dietary requirements in advance. When? : Meet at the notice board at the Cullesden Road entrance to the park at 10am. What? : Follow the clues around the wood finishing back at the Cullesden Road entrance. What to bring? : Make sure you have good footwear and something waterproof if it’s wet. Each group will also need a mobile phone. How Much is it? : £10 for adults and £5 for children. Any profit will go to The Friends of Foxley Wood. ...

Harvest Festival at St Barnabas - 24th September 2023

Image
We celebrated Harvest Festival at St Barnabas on Sunday. We donated money to the Purley Food Stop; food to the Purley Food Hub; birdseed for our feeders at All Saints and sold home-produced goods to raise money for Foxley Woods! It was one of those special 'giving' days that we love at our churches. Special thanks to the uniformed organisations who decorated the church's windowsills marvellously!

Animal Blessing Service - 8th October 2023

Image
We are planning a special animal service on 8th October at St Barnabas, where children and adults are encouraged to bring along their pets and also learn about endangered animals around the world. In this season of Caring for our World, it seems so appropriate for us to learn more about those wonderful creatures with whom we share our world. All are most welcome - all creatures great and small.

7th Purley Beavers Woodland Litter Pick

Image
Last night, the Beavers of 7th Purley (All Saints Kenley) initiated a litter pick through the woodland between Firs Road Kenley and Crossrig in Pondfield Road. The amount of rubbish they collected was incredible.  A huge well done to all involved and thank you for clearing up our community space. A wonderfully selfless act during the Caring for our World season.

NEW - Games Afternoon at All Saints, Kenley

Image
We were very excited to open the doors to our very first Games Afternoon at All Saints Church Hall, this Monday. Boggle, Scrabble, Jenga, Jigsaws and lots of cake and laughter was all on the menu, as we welcomed both familiar and new faces to the church hall. It was wonderful to see some of the lovely residents of the Rokewood Care Home, who were great company and play a mean game of Boggle!   The next Games afternoon will take place on Monday 16th October, from 2pm - 4pm. Do come along and join the fun.  Everyone is very welcome.  No experience of the games necessary and if you just want to come and watch and have a cup of tea or coffee and some company, you are most welcome.

Wychcroft Retreat - Saturday 16th September 2023

Image
On Saturday, a number of our congregation visited Wychcroft for a day retreat. During the day they imagined their perfect dinner party, complete with the perfect selection of guests, food and drink, while recognising that we have all been invited by the Great Host, God, to the ultimate dinner party – the Banquet of the Kingdom. The group explored  what it means to hear and accept God’s invitation - what it means to us as individuals and what it means in our relationship with the world around us – with the billions of others who have also been invited whether we fancy the idea of sharing a table with them or not. They thought about some of the meals that were shared in the Bible – from Abraham and Sarah getting an unplanned feast together for their surprise visitors, to the great feast of the Passover, to Martha and Mary in their house in Bethany as they hosted Jesus and his disciples and finally leading us to the Last Supper that Jesus shared with his friends.  By e...

Rev Justine's Communion Service at St Philip's, Norbury

Image
Today, I covered a Communion service at St Philip’s, whilst their priest was on holiday.  It was really good to be in a church that does things differently (but also the same).  You might have heard of their boys choir, Libera, who look and sound angelic but were   still running around playing football between the service and their second rehearsal of the day!
